4th of July in Albuquerque

First stop on our trip was Albuquerque to celebrate the 4th of July with our friends from Galveston, - Jason, Erica, and Bryce Yule. We try to stop and visit as often as we can as we go to and from Arizona and it worked out this time that we could stay a couple of days. We got there Wednesday evening, and after unwinding from the drive, started the fun and festivities on Thursday.
Jason and Erica took us to Tingley Ponds for a little fishing, something we did with them often in Galveston. The kids had a lot of fun, not necessarily fishing, but at least playing on the rocks and bridge and with each other.

Here are the men fishing with their manly poles in the 12 and under pond. We had to quickly ditch the poles off onto the kids whenever security would come around. I tried to get them to look at me and smile, but I was later informed that they were on a serious hunt and didn't have time for pictures.

The boys did try to fish a little bit, but the fish weren't biting (despite the fact that it had been stocked two days before), so they just didn't last very long.

Ashlyn ended up being Daddy's best fishing partner. She lasted the longest and seemed to have the most fun. I think she mostly liked hanging out with Dad.

Our biggest "catch" was random parts of a crawdad that Isaac and Carter found. The Yule's biggest catch was a two inch fish that Bryce reeled in. We thought we got a picture of him kissing it, but apparently it didn't take.

At the ponds they had a little train depot. We wanted to ride the train, but it was lunchtime and it was a 30 min wait for a 1 hr ride, so we headed home instead. Erica thinks that the train goes through the middle of the zoo so I'd really like to try and ride it another time.

This was the best Fourth of July family pictures we could manage. Say cheese!

At home, we filled up the baby pool for the kids and watched them play until we barbecued that evening with their neighbors. The boys had a blast with the HUGE slide Bryce told them all about!

That night we put Ashlyn to bed and did fire crackers at home. The only restriction in Albuquerque was that you couldn't shoot off ones that went in the air. Nobody seemed to care but us, because we got a pretty good show all around us. Ironically, the cops down the street put on the best display.
The boys watching the always impressing "growing black snake." I'm still not sure why we buy those every year, but for some reason we do.

Sparklers are always my favorite. Carter was willing to do his this year.

The boys took turns picking which fire cracker they wanted to set off and helping Jason light it.

Jason is a self-proclaimed baby hater, but Ashlyn had him wrapped around her finger in no time. He's never held my boys or his nephews or any other child besides his own willingly, but he often had her on his hip. He claims it was because it was a challenge - this is where she perfected her scowl that she carried all through the reunion, but I think he actually liked her! :) At least he was useful. She wouldn't eat for anyone but him!

Ashlyn looking good sporting Bryce's Buzz Lightyear Shades.

We had a fabulous time and it's always great to see old friends. Thanks again Jason and Erica!
